  Thallus yellow-brown or dull to bright orange, thin, membranous; soredia and isidia absent. Apothecia common and scattered over the thallus, sessile, constricted at the base, 0.3–1.0 mm wide; disc orange, ±plane; margin prominent, rather fragile, orange; disc and margin K+ purple; proper exciple without a distinct medullary layer. Epihymenium and margin encrusted with anthraquinone crystals. Hymenium not inspersed, colourless, 60–80 μm thick; hypothecium colourless to pale brown. Asci 8-spored, 50–60 × 9–13 μm. Ascospores narrowly ellipsoidal, transversely septate, with 6–8 ovoid to lens-shaped locules, 19–27 × 5–6 μm; terminal locules ±elongate; walls finely ornamented. Conidia not seen..
CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecia K+ purple; thallus containing fragilin (minor), parietin (minor), 7-chloroemodin (minor), 7-chloroparietinic acid (minor), ±fragilin bisanthrone (trace); apothecia containing fragilin (major), parietin (minor), 7-chloroemodin (minor), 7-chloroparietinic acid (minor), ±emodin (trace), ±7-chlorofallacinal (trace), ±7-chlorotelo-schistin (trace), ±fragilin bisanthrone (trace).
     
  Rare on bark in north-eastern Qld; a pantropical-subtropical species that is common in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America.
